Dear Parents and Carers, I would like to introduce myself as the new Police Community Support Officer
Anti-social behaviour, Hayle Towan's
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to introduce myself as the new Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) for Hayle and the surrounding areas. I am writing on behalf of the local Neighbourhood Policing Team regarding ongoing concerns surrounding large groups of young people gathering around Hayle Beach and the dunes area.
Over recent weeks, we have received numerous reports from members of the public concerning anti-social behaviour involving groups of approximately 40 to 50 young people. Incidents reported and witnessed include:The impact on local residents has been significant. Several individuals have reported feeling unsafe in the area, and there is growing concern regarding the disruption and distress being caused. This behaviour is also creating a negative perception of young people within the community and placing increasing demands on police resources during the busy summer period.
- Underage alcohol consumption, with officers confiscating alcohol from several young people.
- Physical altercations and fights between youths.
- Verbal abuse directed towards members of the public.
- Intimidating behaviour causing distress to local residents and visitors.
- Items being thrown at members of the public.
- Large gatherings creating ongoing concerns for community safety and wellbeing.
We are working closely with partner agencies to address these issues through high-visibility patrols, engagement with young people, intelligence gathering and enforcement action where appropriate. However, we are asking for the support of parents and carers in helping us reinforce the following messages:
- To behave responsibly and respectfully when visiting beaches and other public spaces.
- That underage drinking and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
- To understand the potential consequences of involvement in disorder, assaults, criminal damage or public order offences.
- To be mindful of the impact their behaviour has on residents, visitors and the wider community.
- To look after their own safety and welfare, particularly around the coastline and dunes.
We recognise that the vast majority of young people behave responsibly and are a credit to their families and community. However, a small number of individuals are having a significant impact on others, and we hope that by working together we can prevent further incidents and ensure that Hayle remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
We would encourage parents and carers to speak with their children about these concerns and to be aware of where they are spending their time, particularly during the school holidays.
Thank you for your continued support and assistance.
Kind regards,
Aidan Jepson
