Coastal Communities Fundby Hayle Harbour (Notes) on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 5:05amWhat is the Coastal Communities Fund?
The Coastal Communities Fund (CCF) will encourage the economic development of UK coastal communities by giving them funding to create sustainable economic growth and jobs.
The government has committed £27.8 million to support the CCF in 2013/14 with money generated by the Crown Estate's marine assets. The Big Lottery Fund is delivering the CCF on behalf of Government, operating under the name Big Fund.
What is the Hayle Harbour Trust Doing?
In 2012, HHT submitted an application for £1.6 million for work on East Quay.
Our project would create 57 new, sustainable full-time jobs and over 100 indirect jobs, protect 15 and provide 45 construction jobs.
The major part of the work is to refurbish the old building on East Quay that currently houses Mr. Hawkins' lobster and crab business.
Artist's impression of the refurbished building from South QuayWe would also provide storage and workshops, provide additional moorings on the Cockle Bank and provide offices for harbour-related businesses. Overall, the income from this project would inject £100,000 to £150,000 into the harbour funding the completion of many other projects. (We have a long list)
Artist's Impression of the building from North QuayIn 2012, the CCF received 630 expressions of interest for projects in England. Of these, 55 (9%), including the Hayle Harbour project, were invited to Stage 2, with a combined value of £50.5 million. The available budget for England was £18.2m, which represented a ratio of 2.8 to the funds available. Ultimately, 20 projects in England were successful and we were not one of them.
However, the evaluation committee said that our application had potential and was not selected because all of the planning issues were resolved at application time. We were invited to resubmit in 2013 and will be fast-tracked to Stage 2.
We are already working on the issues raised by the CCF and feel confident that we have a good shot at winning in 2013.
