Refurbishing and Repairs

Converting the lights

We have an amazing collection of unique lights which were started in 1986 and we want to make sure that people will be able to enjoy them for many years to come so we have decided to begin a new project – converting them from 240v incandescent rope light to 12v LED rope light. This is safer, uses much less electricity and is better for the environment.

Each frame will cost between £150 and £200 to convert. It took almost 40 years to build our collection of lights so converting them to 12v LED will take a number of years to complete.

We began by converting a few ‘simple’ lights and testing out what the rope light could do.

We held a work shop to show those interested.

12v LED rope light is pegged out and attached to the frame

Soldering is also part of the process

Sheep

There are 2 sheep that are part of the nativity display

Small tree

Converting this frame allowed our volunteers to explore the different effects it was possible to achieve with 12v LED rope light

Bauble

This was the first light that was converted

The Cross

The cross was chosen for the workshop as it was a good size and a simple, straightforward design.

Snowman

The waving action of this light allowed our volunteers to explore more programming options
