200201 | Dissolution of Praze Hayle Choir

Praze Hayle male choir could disband unless new musical director comes forward - The Cornishman

Dissolution of Praze Hayle Choir

It is with great regret that we have to announce the dissolution of the Praze Hayle Male Voice Choir. The choir last met in August 2019 and the intervening period has been spent in distributing the choir’s assets, both financial and physical; This has now been completed.

The choir was formed by the joining together of the Praze and Hayle Male Voice Choirs and  25performed successfully for nearly two decades. However, a declining membership meant that the choir could no longer perform the 4-part Male Voice Choir music that formed its repertoire and closure, sadly, became inevitable.  read more »

200201 | Haylestones

Haylestones

Do you know of any marker or boundary stones in the Hayle area? I home-published a small booklet about them a couple of years ago but would like to update it and produce it as a proper book.

I know about most of the obvious ones -the 4 numbered milestones from Penpol Road to Connor Downs; Harvey/CCC marked posts; the GWR stone by the  34greenhouse on the King George Memorial Walk, etc., but there are many more. We are lucky they are still here and I'd like to record what the town has at the moment.  read more »

200201 | New Enterprise Helping Hayle's Plastic Free Status Sharon Joslin

NEW ENTERPRISE HELPING HAYLE'S PLASTIC FREE STATUS

Sharon Joslin has started Eco Makers Markets at venues in West Cornwall including Passmore Edwards Institute. All traders are making products ethically with minimal impact on the environment and avoiding the use of plastics and man-made fibres. The first two Eco Makers Markets in Passmore Edwards in November and Jubilee Pool in Penzance in December were well attended by traders and customers. People commented how nice it was to be part of a community of like-minded individuals. Items being sold included recycled Cashmere accessories, local pottery, reworked clothing, toiletries, lighting and jewellery together with vegan chocolate. There were knitted goods from fleece to completed garment, weaving and much more.  read more »

190501 | Councillor Capper awarded for service to town and serving on town council for 40 years

"It was noted that Councillor Capper had attended the Cornwall Council Awards Ceremony at County Hall on 1 May 2019. He had been recognised for his long service to the town and in particular for serving on the town council for 40 years. He circulated the framed certificate and the tie pin, made of tin from South Crofty Mine, which he had been presented with. Members, once again, offered sincere congratulations and thanked him for his continued enthusiasm."
