HAYLE PENWITH U3A:

Hayle U3A has the following programme this week.  Today, Thursday November 17, at 10am there is Games; then at 2pm the U3A committee meeting takes place.  On Tuesday November 22 at 10am there is Art then at 2pm the Film club meets.  All sessions except Writing are held in the Philip Smith annexe to the Hayle Day Care Centre.  The Writing is held in Hayle Library.

RSPB BIRDWATCHING FOR BEGINNERS:

Do you ever wonder what lives on the estuary?  Well now is your chance to find out.  Join the RSPB warden and explore the shoreline and mudflats around this wonderful estuary looking for wild birds.  This is the season when birds return to the estuary in good numbers.  Your guide will show you birds like oystercatchers, ringed plover, sanderling, dunlin, black-tailed and bar-tailed godwit, curlew, greenshank, redshank and much, much more.  Meet at Copperhouse swimming pool car park (free), Hayle Estuary nature reserve (SW549362) this Friday November 18 and Sunday November 20 at 10am to 1pm or 2pm to 5pm.  Booking required.  £5 per person (children free). PHILLACK CHRISTMAS FAYRE

This Saturday, November 19, from 10am to 1pm in Phillack Church Hall. Father Christmas will be visiting! Raffles - Refreshments - Nearly New - Bric-à-Brac - Pick a Prezzie.

HAYLE FLOWER CLUB:

Hayle Flower club's next meeting is November 23 at 7:30pm at Hayle day centre. Demonstrator for the evening is Heather Werkmeister. The theme is something seasonal. The competition is for a Christmas Cheer candle. Visitors most welcome at £3.

HAYLE FILM CLUB:

Learning to Drive.  Thursday November 24 at 7.30pm.

Patricia Clarkson and Ben Kingsley are the odd couple leading this deft tale: she is a New York professional learning to drive after her marriage falls apart, he is her Indian teacher, a Sikh at the start of a relationship with a woman his sister picked out for him. They drive, they talk, they learn. As ever, at the Passmore Edwards Institute, house lights down at 7.30pm and home-baked refreshments after. CHRISTMAS BAZAAR:

Penwith Parish Catholic Church's Christmas Bazaar is next week on Thursday November 24 and will be held in St John's Hall, Penzance, 10am to 2pm. Stalls of good bric-a-brac, jewellery, fancy goods, plants, books and lots more. Grand Draw with terrific prizes.  Father Christmas will be there. Refreshments available.  Come along for the many bargains on sale and meet your friends.

HAYLE WI:

Hayle WI will be holding a Craft Fayre on Saturday November 26 between 10am and 2pm at Phillack Church Hall. As well as lots of handmade goodies there will be bacon baps, sausage rolls, coffee, tea and mince pies on sale.

HAYLE FRIENDS:

Hayle Friends invite you to place a Memory Star on their Christmas tree at Tesco Carbis Bay on November 26 between 10am and 4pm. All donations to Children's Hospice SW Little Harbour.

QUIZ NIGHT:

Hayle in Bloom invite you to a festive Quiz Night, Tuesday November 29 at the Old Quayhouse, Lelant. 7pm for 7:30pm start. Teams of 4 or 6 @£2.50. per person. There will also be a festive Christmas Raffle. To book your table contact Lyn Reffold on 01736 752166. Come along and have a fun evening.

JUMBLE SALE:

Macmillan Jumble Sale will take place at Phillack Church Hall on Saturday December 3 at 10am. There will be good quality jumble plus the Christmas Stall. If you have any jumble or any new items no longer required and you would like it collected please ring 01736 753635 or 01736 753823. Alternatively, you can drop it off at the hall on the Friday evening before between 6pm and 7pm or the morning of the Jumble after 8.30am.

HAYLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL:

On Friday December 9 Hayle Community school will be supporting Cornwall Hospice Care with a Christmas Parade and it is hoped that the whole school - students, teachers, governors and support staff in addition to local primary schools - will be involved.

Cornwall Hospice Care is an independent Cornish charity, uniquely placed within the community and committed to the delivery of excellence in Specialist Palliative Care across Cornwall. The service is free of charge to the patient. However, their charity status means that they rely heavily on financial and voluntary support from the general public by way of charitable donations, legacies, shops income, fundraising events and various other activities.

In view of the above, and in particular the association with St Julia's Hospice in Hayle, the school is keen to support the valuable work Cornwall Hospice Care provides. They are organising the Christmas Parade which will leave school at intervals from 1.30pm and walk a two mile route down St Georges Road, along Penpol Terrace, through the town to Copperhouse and back via Humphry Davy Lane with potentially as many as 400 Christmas themed students walking through Hayle!

Please come and support the students by waving, clapping, cheering, tooting your horn and donating loose change in the collecting buckets along the way.

HAYLE ROTARY CLUB:

Last Monday, members were visited by Geoff and Lynn Pearce from the Retired Greyhound Rescue Trust who gave members a very informative and enjoyable talk regarding retired racing greyhounds, their working lives and after.  The dogs will have given happy memories and entertainment to thousands of spectators but it is extremely hard to find the particular family to enjoy a long and loyal retirement with an area for exercise and joyful running.  Members were suitably impressed by the intricate knowledge and dedication

 

of Geoff and Lynn who were thanked by Rotarian George Stone for a most interesting evening. Members have been very busy assisting with the Poppy collections over the past two weeks and would like to thank everyone who so generously donated and entertained members.  President Brian Hattam and members also attended the RBL Remembrance service and parade on Sunday.

Next week the club will be receiving a very interesting talk, close to members' hearts, by Danielle and Kevin on the subject "Children with Autism".  The club have supported them in their efforts to obtain medical treatment for their son Jamie and hope to learn how this charming little lad is progressing.

SALVATION ARMY:

Cross street Hayle. Will be holding a table top sale on Saturday November 19 from 10am until 3pm. Everyone welcome. New and very good items for sale also some craft.

PHILLACK PARISH CHURCH:

The service this Sunday is at 9.15am and is followed by tea and biscuits. The Christmas bazaar will be held in the church hall on November 19 commencing at 10 am. This year's Christmas Tree festival in the church will open on Tuesday December 20.

ST ELWYN'S CHURCH:

On Sunday November 20, Christ the King, the Parish Eucharist will be celebrated by the Reverend Sharon Clifton at 9.30 am. On Wednesday November 23, Said Eucharist will be celebrated by the Reverend Sharon Chalcraft at 10 am. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after each Service.

ST.JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, HAYLE:

St Joseph's Church in Hayle is part of the Roman Catholic Parish of the Holy Family. Father Philip celebrated the 6.30pm Mass on Saturday November 12 with readings from Isaiah, Thessalonians and gospel by Luke.

There will be Mass on Friday November 18 at 10am.

Reconciliation is difficult at Hayle at the moment both owing to the hall rebuild and getting to mass after 5pm.  If you can't get to Penzance contact Father Philip.

Choral Evening  Prayer and Benediction for the Feast of Christ the King this Sunday November 20 at 6pm.
