McDonald's explains the real reason why Cornwall restaurant was shut
Firefighters were called to the scene this morning amid fears of a gas leak. However McDonald's has now set the record straight
A gas leak was not to blame for the closure of a McDonald's restaurant in Cornwall on Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the fast food branch in Hayle and there were reports that a carbon dioxide leak had been detected.
A team of firefighters arrived and the building was coned off from the public. But after a safety check crews gave the chain the all clear and the matter was left in the hands of staff.
At noon staff were still waiting for an engineer to turn up but it was confirmed the incident was not serious. It is understood the restaurant was closed for two hours.
Just after 4.30pm the restaurant issued an explanation.

The alarm was triggered by a faulty sensor and there was no leak.
It said: "We can confirm that the Hayles McDonald’s very briefly closed today as a precaution due to a faulty sensor. It quickly transpired there were no issues beyond this sensor and normal service resumed.”
