A CORNISH pasty maker has had to halt production for ten days after one of it workers tested positive for Covid.

Philps Bakery in Hayle reported that one of its staff members within one of its production bubbles had tested positive for Covid-19.

The company said it had been following the guidelines set by the government to be COVID safe, and with the sharp rise in infection rates here in Cornwall recently, had put in extra planning and preparation in place to be ready for a situation like this.

Posting on Facebook the company said: "All production came to an immediate halt to allow the staff time to self isolate and limit the spread further.

"Thankfully, with the pre-planning and safety measures in place we have been able to remain operational, with staff who have not been exposed to the virus.

"Our premises have now been thoroughly/professionally cleaned and sanitised by an external cleaning company (who have been fantastic) and they will continue to perform deep cleans until it’s safe to reopen and restart production.

"Thank you to everyone for the continued support during these extremely difficult times and be assured in the knowledge that we will continue to do everything we can to keep our staff and customers safe."

Philp's Bakery was established in 1958 by Samuel Philp and is now a flourishing business producing one of Cornwall's finest Cornish pasties and is still run by the same family today.
