A warning has gone out about a strong current at a west Cornwall beach.

The RNLI says there is currently a deep hole in front of the lifeguard unit at Mexico Towans, in Hayle.

At mid to high tide this is causing a strong rip current in the areas.

There is no lifeguard cover on the beach but crews says teams at nearby beaches are helping to keep people away from the area.

Beach goers are being urged to take extra care.

"There is currently a deep hole in front the lifeguard unit at Mexico Towans causing a strong rip current at mid to high tide.

"We have NO lifeguard cover at this beach.

"Lifeguards are currently patrolling at Beachview and Hayle Beach and are doing a fantastic job at keeping people away from this area of the beach."
