Chance to view Barncoose to Tolgus improvement work plans

/ Peter Johnstone, Reporter /

People living near or using the road between Barncoose and Tolgus will be able to see improvement plans for the A3047 corridor at an exhibition on Thursday.

The display will show the improvements which form part of the Redruth Strategic Employment Growth Package, and will be available to view at Krowji, West Park in Redruth, between 8am and 8pm on July 21.

The Redruth Strategic Employment Growth Package is made up of three schemes.

The first, Redruth Gateway, has outline planning approvals in place for housing, community facilities and office space at Tolgus Fields, and the main aspect of this scheme is to provide a new junction - Redruth Gateway, including pedestrian crossings, and to reduce the dual carriageway to a single lane.

The second, Barncoose Junction, will encourage through traffic to use the new Camborne and Redruth link road by amending the layout of the junction and as a result enabling more sustainable journeys, such as by bus, cycling and walking, along Illogan Highway.

The third, new and improved dedicated walking and cycling facilities, will build an accessible and safe signed walking and cycling network linking employment centres, transport hubs and residential areas.

Members of the project and construction teams will be on hand throughout the day at the exhibition to answer any questions and there will be more information available about the proposals and traffic management plans.

Victoria Fraser, Cornwall Council's transport planning and strategy team leader, said: “This scheme provides an excellent opportunity to enable sustainable travel and create a gateway into Redruth supported by new walking and cycling links connecting key residential and employment sites such as Krowji and Cornwall’s future archive centre, Kresen Kernow.”

If you are unable to attend the exhibition or would like more information about the scheme, visit www.cornwall.gov.uk/barncoose. If you would like to be added to Cornwall Council's mailing list for updates on the scheme, email redruthsep@cornwall.gov.uk
